A lot has happened since the last post, good and bad. Those more invasive tests I mentioned last time turned out to show that my system looks about as normal and functional as expected. Unfortunately, Ellis's did not turn out that way. Basically, without too much detail, the part of the baby making equation that Ellis would normally bring to the table has no way to get out. Turns out that although it's there, he's missing the necessary 'tubing' to get it where it needs to go (or in medical terms 'congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens').
What this means for us is that, while we can still have a baby, it has just become a little more complicated. Instead of baby making in the usual fashion, we get to do it in a more clinical way, via IVF. We are blessed to have the doctors at Johns Hopkins on our case and working with us. They have all been extremely helpful and wonderful to work with! Here's hoping that between them and us we come out the other end of this with a beautiful, healthy baby!
